Last week, a New Brunswick lobster fisherman had the catch of his career. After 50 years of hauling in lobsters in Richibucto Cape, Eugene Richard landed a very rare ghost lobster. Boo!
Lobsters typically range in color from brown to a greenish-blue. Albino lobsters lack pigments, so their blue blood can be seen through their shells, which gives them a pale blue shimmer.
Scientists have reported that the odds of catching an albino lobster is about 1 in 100 million. What’s the obvious next step? With that kind of luck, you can bet he played the lotto!
No worries, the Richard family donated the three-quarter pound lobster to the New Brunswick Aquarium. The blue beauty will be on display and away from dinner plates.
Now that’s a lobster of a different color! Learn more about these freakily fascinating crustaceans.
