There’s a new kid on the block at SeaWorld San Antonio, and he’s just about ready to make his first appearance to the public. Kenai the beluga whale, your crowd is awaiting.
Kenai was born on August 11th of last year, giving him six months to fatten up and form bonds in private. Like all successful belugas, Kenai is a momma’s boy. He has gained an astounding 200 pounds under her care and nursing.
When he’s not with his mother Luna, Kenai likes to spend time with his 3-year-old brother Samson, the lady whales and SeaWorld trainers. While the first two parties had nothing to say on his behalf, SeaWorld trainers are overwhelmingly enthusiastic.
“Let’s face it,” the park said. “He loves playing with toys!” He loves playing with the trainers, too, who describe him as curious and playful.
In just two more years, Kenai will be completely independent of his mother. The weaned beluga will eat a balanced diet of various sea creatures. From his comfy tank in San Antonio, Kenai will inspire the research and education that could potentially rescue his entire species from endangerment.
