What would you do if you saw an orca whale in the wild… Freakout?
Us too.
What if you stumbled upon a WHOLE POD of orca whales?
We don’t even know where to start.
This once in a lifetime situation recently bubbled up before Dave Lyons, a surf instructor from Kaikoura. Not only did he experience a major loss for words but he flat out could not believe his eyes.
Of course, to make sure the encounter was actually real… he took a video. In less than 5 days, the video has received over 13,000 views.
Several of Lyon’s employees had always wanted to see an orca whale, so when the sighting was called in, it was obvious that they needed to hop on a pair of jet skis and race to the scene.
According to Lyons, there were roughly 30 orca whales in 5 different groups that were spread out over a 3 km stretch.
The surf instructor recalled, “We followed them about 15km off-shore towards Mangamaunu. There was the mum one side, and the dad on the other. We never got close to him but he was huge – his fin was enormous. All the pups were playing, it was just so amazing.”
Apparently, while swimming along side the jet skis, the killer whales really seemed to enjoy making bubbles and playing in the wake!
AWE.
This is truly a once in a lifetime experience… but times thirty.
