What’s black and white and the most majestic mammal on the planet? Oh yeah… the ORCA WHALE.
Just off the coast of a Norwegian city called Tromsø, some incredible, shocking, and rare underwater footage was taken of some orca whales. So exactly why is the footage considered so rare… ? Well not many divers would ever be brave enough to swim IN THE WATER with killer whales. The name alone should some what of a hair raising deterrent.
Spanish photographer David Gonzalez Buendia joined marine biologist Andreas B. Heide on a sailing expedition in November last year, The Local reported. A chilly mixture of sailing, paddling, and free diving resulted in some dramatic images of the massive and majestic mammals.
Buendia posted the dramatic encounter on March 13th to YouTube with the comment:
“During the shooting of a documentary in arctic Norway, we got up close and personal with killer whales. Rather than ferocious killers, orcas are gentle and inquisitive, at least when it comes to human encounters. Hundreds of orcas and humpback whales gathers in the Tromsø region in the period of November to January, to feed on the overwintering herring.”
