Cheeto the seahorse has had it rough this week. She has traveled the world over, from the beak of a seagull, a rescue vehicle venturing far from home, and now the quiet sanctuary of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
The whole debacle began at Indian Shores Beach in Pinellas County, Florida. When a remorseful seagull dropped its beakful of Cheeto at a young girl’s feet in the sand, she and her mother were in shock. Cheeto was more than a salty, crunchy, orange-colored snack – Cheeto was a living, dying creature.
The mother did not hesitate to act. She called the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for help, and a rescue team was dispatched immediately. In a stroke of luck and goodwill, Cheeto the seahorse is now on the road to recovery.
During her time at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Cheeto has been declared an orange-lined seahorse and spoiled by animal care staff devoted to her intensive care and regular meals of grass shrimp.
“Each creature is important to us, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to rehabilitate Cheeto,” expressed CEO David Yates.
Cheeto is growing stronger by the day. Soon, she will be ready for release back home. Until then, check out the “Cheeto Cam” to watch as Cheeto explores her temporary luxury suite.
