The drone world is exploding. People can’t seem to get enough of the zippy little treetop-filmers. They come in all shapes and sizes, but the most frequently seen are the ones that hover in mid air; the quadcopter versions.
What would happen if a drone could capture what happens underwater? A company called Robosea thinks it has the answer.
Their special drone prototype resembles the streamlined body of a fish, only it’s super adorable. BIKI is the world’s first bionic underwater drone. Its features are pretty cool: automated balance so it always swims upright, obstacle avoidance, a 4K UltraHD camera, and a return to base device.
This intelligent robot fish is definitely teched out. Sleek, round, and propelled by a flapping tail, it moves through the water with ease and can even dive to depths of 196 feet.
The possibilities of underwater filming are endless with BIKI. It has been tested in the pool with families to capture all of the fun, and divers have taken it to film the mysterious and magical coral reefs. Fish don’t seem to be afraid of it either, so the pictures and videos you’re able to capture are completely out of this world.
And if you’re wondering how durable this drone is, listen up! The CEO of Robosea Dr. Xiong Minglei invented and developed the first underwater robot with dual reconfigurable tail fins, and tested it in the icy waters of Antarctica. Thanks to the robot created by Dr. Minglei, the idea for BIKI became reality. Its success led to BIKI’s creation.
Robosea’s idea, which is on Kickstarter, has earned quite a bit of cash so far. Everyone wants to be the first to show off their new drone around the holiday season! There’s no doubt that you’ll see BIKI’s footage at the top of your social media feed next year.
