Finding Dory strikes again! According to Fox 4 KC, Kansas City is considering asking voters for approval of bonds that could bring an aquarium to the Kansas City Zoo.
Parents are citing the popularity of the movie of the summer, Finding Dory, as spurring a renewed interest and desire in having some one-on-one time with undersea life. What better way to foster that interest than adding an aquarium to the already well-established Kansas City Zoo!
The addition of this indoor feature could also help supplement the zoo’s attendance during the exceptionally hot summer season, when temperatures rise above 100 degrees.

This would be the second aquarium for the city. The pre-existing Sea Life Aquarium, located at Crown Center, is a for-profit operation that opened in 2012. It holds 260,000 gallons and cost $15 million to build.
However, city officials stress that no formal decisions have been made. The idea isn’t “fully matured,” according to the Kansas City Star, and has yet to be officially presented to the City Council.
The City bonding authority is only one potential source of funding for this project, in conjunction with private donation and revenue from the taxing district. As of now, there is no scope that has been agreed upon to base monetary requests on.
With support from voters and a little luck, even landlocked Kansas City residents could soon have some marine residents to hangout with!
