It’s that time of year again: migration time.
Every year thousands of sharks flock to Florida’s shallow waters to eat, mate and well… repeat.
Hydrophilik shared a video to YouTube that truly captures the majesty of the mass migration. Most likely a congregation of blacktip reef sharks, the video was captured using a drone to hover over the clear blue waters in between Fort Pierce and Vero Beach, Florida.
Spoiler alert: several brave surfers and manatee family also make an appearance 🙂
Blacktip reef sharks have earned quite a bad rap in recent years, which is probably due to the fact that they’re responsible for more human bites than any other shark species. It’s estimated that the annual phenomenon consists of anywhere between 10,000-12,000 sharks. Blacktips typically live in cloudier waters, so they’ll only stick around in these crystal clear shallows until March or so.
