Where would we be today without drones? Well… we would have missed out on a ton of AWESOME ariel footage for one.
Earlier this week off the coast of Maui, a photographer managed to capture some incredible drone footage. The video shows an awe inspiring moment between a single paddleboarder and a pod of humpback whales. GULP.
Not gonna lie… we would probably need a new pair of shorts after this once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s equally terrifying as it is awesome. Whew.
In comparison, the single paddleboarder is totally dwarfed by the group of North Pacific humpback whales. Take a look:
The video was originally uploaded to Facebook by a photographer named Uheheu on January 15th. Uheheu said that the four humpback whales were probably around 30-tons each.
Thankfully, the whales’ curiosity peaked before the paddleboarder was accidentally injured.
This time of year, North Pacific humpback whales are flocking from Alaska to the warm water of Hawaii for their winter migration. From November to May, the mega mammals will spend the majority of their time mating and welcoming widdle humpback whales into the world. Awe so presh.
At one point in time, the North Pacific humpback whale population fluctuated around only 1,400 members. However, thanks to extreme conservation efforts, the current count is closer to 21,000.
WHALE DONE!
