The Great Lakes Aquarium’s beloved river otter, Anang has passed away at the age of 20.
The aquarium announced that the otter died of natural causes related to her age.
“Anang has been with us for many years,” said Anang’s keeper, Natali Riemer. “We can take solace in the fact that she lived a full and happy life filled with many ice treats, piles of leaves, and minnows to catch.
In 2013, Anang was moved to a smaller “retirement” space where she lived out the rest of her days in peace and quiet.
“We saw her starting to slow down a Iittle bit more, but she went very peacefully,” said Jay Walker, the aquarium’s director of operations. “We’re really sad she is gone, but I’m very proud of our staff and the team that took care of her. They gave her above and beyond care that these animals would need.”
Anang is sure to be missed by everyone lucky enough to have met her!
