The Blue Whale is the biggest animal on earth known to man on both land and sea. This thing is HUUUGEEEE and just to put things in perspective, it is comparable to a Boeing 373 airplane and its tongue alone weighs 4 tons.
#2 The Fin Whale
Topping the charts at number two, the Fin Whale is actually the second largest animal on the planet. It can swim at speeds up to 23 mph and has a diet primarily of crustaceans, krill, squid, and fish.
#3 The Whale Shark
Maxing out at a length of roughly 65 feet and a whopping 75,000 pounds, the Whale Shark dwarfs a majority of oceanic creatures. It is a filter feeder and has the ability to sift through over 1,500 gallons of water in an hour as part of its feeding ritual.
#4 Sperm Whale
The Sperm Whale can grow upwards of 80 feet in length, which is essentially an 8-story building that can swim. Unlike many other whale species, these whales have teeth as opposed to bristles, making them the largest toothed animal to roam the sea.
#5 Giant Manta Rays
Regarded as the world’s largest Ray species, the Giant Manta Ray’s name is self-explanatory. Their large pectoral fins stretch to an unbelievable 30 feet across which is about four-and-a-half times wide as Michael Jordan is tall.
#6 Lion’s Mane Jelly
These Jelly Fish have a sting as bad as a lions bite but they don’t get their name because of that. These massive jellyfish are among the biggest in the world. These things have eight groups of tentacles which are composed of 70 to 150 strands that can grow up to a terrifying 120 feet in length.
#7 The Killer Whale
The Killer Whale, otherwise known as an Orca, is one of the biggest and most powerful predators on the planet. They are an apex predator, which means they are on the top of the food chain, preying on animals like seals and dolphins.
#8 The Great White Shark
The Great White Shark is also an apex predator as well with little-known predators other than the Killer Whale. The Great White typically runs three times the size of the average human male
#9 Giant Oarfish
The Giant Oarfish is essentially a giant sea serpent. Known as one of the worlds largest bony fish it reaches lengths of up to 56 feet.
#10 Japanese Spider Crab
Talk about crab legs! The Spider crab has a width of over 12 feet and of the 5-10 million known species of arthropods in the world, the spider crab remains the biggest.
#11 Ocean Sunfish
Known as the “swimming head” the ocean sunfish can grow up to 10.82 feet and a whopping 5,070 pounds.
#12 Giant Pacific Octopus
With a full radius spread of about 32 feet and a weight of over 600 pounds, the Giant Pacific Octopus grows bigger and lives longer than any other octopus species in the world
#13 Basking Shark
As if sharks weren’t already scary enough, the Basking Shark can grow upwards of 40 feet, which also happens to be about the size of a school bus. Unlike many of the shark species, these sharks are the gentle giants of the bunch, feeding on mostly plankton, fish eggs, and larvae.
#14 Portuguese Man-of-War
The Man-of-War is an interesting species that have tentacles that can grow to be about 8 feet but in some cases, there have been findings of these creatures with tentacles as long as 165 feet.
#15 The Giant Sea Star
The name says it all! The giant Sea Star can grow up to two feet in size and also preys on mollusks. If you’re ever looking to find one of these, they make their homes near the rocky parts of low tide zones.
