Mystic Aquarium’s Marine Animal Rescue Team is at it again! After a long year of rescue and rehabilitation, the team released the last five animals that will be heading back into the ocean this year. The lucky pups are five harbor seal youngsters, who were all rescued earlier this year. Each had been retrieved and brought to Mystic Aquarium during the late spring and early summer, shortly after their births.
The young seals are named Begonia, Blossom, Indigo, Marigold, and Viola; presumably due to their spring and summer-time arrivals. The tiny pups only weighed between 14 and 20 pounds when they were rescued, but all of them weighed over 50 pounds by the time they were released. Now these happy and healthy seals have a second chance at life, thanks to the hard work of rescuers at Mystic Aquarium. We bet it feels pretty good to be back at sea!
