Yoda – a young big eyed seal – was hit by a car when he found his way onto the Cape Breton highway.
“As luck would have it a police officer happened along and he was able to secure the seal and get it to us” said Hope Swinimer, said founder of Hope for Wildlife.
The officer said they picked up wayward seals before but it is rare they come across a hooded seal, like Yoda.
Swinimer said Yoda was found thin and lethargic but has certainly perked up since.
“He’s eating up a storm so that’s good news and, as luck would have it, no broken bones.”
Staff of the Hope for Wildlife center are hoping to release the hooded seal back in the wild in about a week.
