Four Virginia residents will be taking an extended summer vacation in Florida at the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park starting in April. The four harbor seals, Peter, Piper, Hector, and Rudder are all permanent residents of the Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach.
The temporary move is happening because their home exhibit needs some “special attention.” The aquarium staff will be busy working on cleaning up their exhibit to ensure it is tip-top shape. Some of the cleaning includes shining up the glass and resealing the tank.
The seals will come home in June to an aquarium that has been cleaned up for them, not a bad way to come home from vacation.
A couple of the Virginia Aquarium staff members will also relocate with the seals to make sure that the seals are receiving the same training they are used to. The bond between the staff and the seals is strong, so it would be difficult for the seals and the staff to be separated for that length of time.
The rest of the staff at the Virginia Aquarium will miss the seals but will be working hard to make sure their exhibit is ready to welcome the seals home soon.
