A calico lobster was found at the Market 32 in East Greenbush earlier this spring. Its coloring is truly unique with a calico pattern that makes it a 1 in 30 million find!
The fact that its shell is such a unique color has allowed this lucky lobster to escape the dinner table. IT has been donated by the Golub Corporation to the Viaport aquarium in Rotterdam, New York.
The reason the lobster has such an odd coloring stems from a genetic mutation in its genes that causes the shell of the animal to turn orange, blue, calico or white instead of the traditional red.
If you want to see this awesome looking lobster for yourself, then head over to the Viaport Aquarium in Rotterdam, New York. New York might be too far away, but you can always attempt to find a calico lobster yourself by checking out lobsters in other aquariums, live lobster markets or in the ocean. The chance you will find one might be 30 million to one, but it is always fun to give it a try!
If you find one, then be sure to share you find with everyone who would appreciate this diverse genetic display within a lobster.
