A new study was recently published in the Nature Climate Change journal. The results do not bode well for the future of our planet. The oceans will be affected, as well as the creatures that live within it.
The study looked at the Marine Protected Areas from around the world. According to the study’s estimates, the temperatures there will warm up by 2.8 C. That is 37 F! An increase in temperature like that would wipe out most of life from the planet.
If these predictions come to pass, then it would be a devastating blow to life everywhere on the planet. The loss of biodiversity from a heat surge like this would be a very hard thing to recover from.
Although things sound bleak, it is important to remember that these predictions are based on a large variety of variable. If some of the variables change over time, then this prediction could be adjusted with that change. Basically, if we work hard to reduce our human inputs into the global warming impact, then it is possible that things could turn around. It will take a huge amount of effort from everyone on the planet, but it is possible that we could affect global warming in a positive way.
