Species in the world are dying off at an alarming rate. Sometimes these plants and animals are
dying before we even have the chance to discover them. It seems like a desperate situation, but
conservations worldwide are working hard to keep these extinctions at bay.
Every tool available is being used. Researchers, scientists, conservationist, and activists are all
pulling together to save these animals and plants while they still can. Once a species is gone,
that’s it, they aren’t coming back.
The different methods of conservation have included captive breeding, habitat restoration,
policy changes, rescuing and rehabilitating injured wildlife, removing predators and more. The
effort has been substantial, and some things are moving in the right direction.
Many efforts have been rewarded with high payoff. For example, the Florida manatee
population has rebounded from endangered to a threatened status. This is only one example of
outstanding success.
Other researchers are working on ways to grow coral in nurseries to help repopulate reefs
worldwide. Success has been slow, but researchers are actively pursuing new methods to help
our coral reefs recover.
Hopefully, there will be many more success stories in the years to come. The most important
thing you can do to help is to spread awareness and do simple things to take care of our planet.
Be mindful that the choices we make can have serious consequences on the plants and animals
around us.
