This mother otter is taking some time to teach her pup the basics of being an otter – swimming.
The duo was spotted in the tidal pool at the Monterey Bay Aquarium last January of last year and the video was recently posted to Reddit.
Monterey Bay Aquarium has been operating their Sea Otter Program since 1984 with a mission to study the threatened Southern Sea otter. Their aim is to better understand the threats to the population and promote the recovery of the species. They rescue, rehabilitate and release injured otters and raise and release otter pups through a surrogate program.
By the looks of this mom otter, she’s handling the “otter raising” thing just fine.
