It’s no secret that here at Awesome Ocean we’re not fans of the movie Blackfish. Since launching Awesome Ocean we have been proud to lead the conversation against the radical agenda of animal rights groups who have sought to put their agenda over the health and welfare of the animals that are in human care at zoos and aquariums.
This week, investigative journalist John Stossel announced that he was going to spotlight SeaWorld this Sunday at 9pm EST on the Fox News channel.
John Stossel wrote about this upcoming segment, “The movie [BlackFish], which CNN bought and ran over and over, tells how greedy businessmen take baby whales from their mothers and imprison them in small aquariums, where the frustrated animals are a threat to each other and their trainers.”
He goes on to say, “It’s romantic to fantasize about freeing whales so that they can frolic in the ocean. That probably wouldn’t work out very well. After the movie Free Willy ran, the whale depicted in the film was set free. But wild whales wouldn’t accept him in their pods. Willy kept returning to shore to be near people. He let children ride on his back. Willy died not long after he was set free … ”
We spoke to the Conservation Director at the Wildlife World Zoo Dr. Grey Stafford who said this about John Stossel’s upcoming piece, “I have had the pleasure of corresponding with John Stossel on animal related matters for years– I am very hopeful his upcoming special will expose the half-truths and fallacies surrounding Blackfish in ways other media outlets have failed to do.”
This past year, Jennifer Dargan, CNN’s director of public relations, conceded “that the film was ‘acquired’ by the news organization and did not adhere to any of CNN’s journalistic standards.”
We are setting our DVRs to record Fox News this Sunday, June 14, at 9pm EST.
