“May the Force Be With You” is not usually something you would think of when watching a dolphin frolic in the water. However when you are watching Kenobi the dolphin in the water, you cannot help but be reminded of the classic Star Wars movies.
Obi Wan Kenobi is a character played by Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor throughout the series. Kenobi is an important Jedi in the Star Wars movies and his namesake “Kenobi” the dolphin appears to be learning the skills of the Jedi.
Kenobi is a young dolphin that is part of a pod that resides in Moray Firth. Her mother’s name is Chewbacca and one of her sibling’s name is Yoda. Scientists at the University of Aberdeen’s Cromarty Field Station gave these names to the dolphins.
The pictures were taken by EcoVentures, a wildlife tour company in the Scottish Highlands. A spokesperson for the company said that “One of our most favourtie dolphins is young Kenobi. They certainly do have their very individual characters and she is one of the most playful, mischievous and inquisitive of them all.”
The dolphins certainly seem to be having a good time, wielding a stick of seaweed as though it were a Jedi light saber.
