A stingray was born on the same day as the new Royal baby. The birth took place at the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham, so naturally the newborn stingray was named after His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.
Shortly after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth, the aquarium staff found a baby stingray in the tanks! The curator, Jonny Rudd, commented that “We were thrilled to discover a baby stingray on the same day as the birth of the royal baby this week. It seemed only fitting that we name the little one after HRH Prince Louis – after all, it’s not every day you’re born at the same time as a royal.”
The new baby stingray is a blue spotted stingray. These animals are threatened in the wild, so it was considered a huge success that the stingray was born at all. Currently, the new guy is adapting to life behind the scenes of the aquarium, but the little stingray will likely be on display within the next couple of weeks.
Hopefully, the new baby stingray will help to raise awareness for the problems facing its population. It faces many threats including the overfishing and destruction of coral reefs worldwide.
