Amazon has filed a patent for a crazy idea: underwater storage centers.
How would this work? Generally, waterproof containers filled with items would be dropped into the water via parachute. The containers would sink to different depths based on their density. Acoustic pulses would then be used to move items and bring them to the surface by changing the density of the container. The pulses would be able to change the density of the package with the ability to change the charge of the air on the inside.
Once the packages get to the surface, the next step is delivery. It is not very clear how this will be done, but Amazon has already patented an airship idea. Either the airship or the drone delivery surface program that is currently being perfected will finish the shipment.
What makes the ocean or a lake a good place for storage? There is just more real estate and the vertical space can be used more effectively. This patent may never actually come to anything. Large companies usually file many patents and hope that one of their ideas actually works out. But it would be pretty amazing if the ocean was a part of your future Amazon order.
