The Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari park welcomed its first baby sea lion a few weeks ago. Not only was the baby the first sea lion ever born in this park, but also the first marine mammal to be born in the state of Arizona.
The young pup was named Sunny, definitely a good fit for Arizona. The first time parents, Paris and Crocket, seem to be very pleased by his arrival. Paris had a supportive team of veterinarians and caretakers surrounding her during her pregnancy journey. She has been working with the team to ensure the health of her and her baby by voluntarily participating in medical procedures. Sea lions are known for their ability to learn complex behaviors, so through positive reinforcement, she has learned how to participate in an ultrasound smoothly.
The team taking care of her included a veterinary technician, 2 veterinarians, and 3 specialists. Through a cooperative effort, the team was able to make sure that both Sunny and Paris were healthy throughout the entire pregnancy.
The Wildlife World Zoo was thrilled to welcome this new addition to the family. Guests will have the opportunity to observe and interact with these adorable sea lions through scheduled feeding sessions twice a day.
