A female sand tiger shark recently proved that girls rule. She was just hanging out in her aquarium when a male shark started to bother her. She did not take that well and had to eat the other shark to make sure that it didn’t happen again.
The incident happened in COEX Aquarium in Seoul, South Korea. The aquarium staff attributed the incident to a territorial dispute. Basically, the male shark was trying to encroach on the female shark’s habitat and it did not end well for him.
Sand tigers normally only eat smaller fish, squid and other small meals in the ocean. Usually, if they eat a large meal like another shark, they have to regurgitate it, but so far the female hasn’t allowed that to happen. The aquarium staff is watching to see if she will be able to hold down this meal.
Sand tiger sharks are known for being aggressive among sharks. They do not like sharing their space or anything else with other sharks. Even as pups in the womb, they must fight to the death to survive. Before birth, there are approximately 12 pups in the womb, but only two emerge victorious as the larger and stronger sharks who are most likely to survive an unforgiving ocean.
