A young seal recently needed two Oak Bay police to come to its rescue. The police arrived at the scene to find a newborn seal pup. The police looked, but there seemed to be no mother around to care for the young pup.
The officers were unwilling to let the little seal die, so they called the Marine Mammal Rescue Center in Vancouver. The center advised the officers to take it from McNeil Bay to veterinarian., so they rushed it to one for overnight care.
The young pup spent the night at the Glenview Animal Hospital in Victoria. It was then taken to Vancouver in the morning for rehabilitation care. At the Marine Mammal Rescue Center, the young pup will receive the best possible care from trained (and loving) staff. Hopefully, the team will be able to get the pup back to full health soon. The current goal is to release the pup back into the wild when it ready.
It may take a few months before it is ready to face the harsh realities of the wild on its own though. Usually a pup this young would have a mother to look after it, but luckily it will still receive the care and attention of a devoted team.
