The Shedd Aquarium sea otters are having snow much fun with the recent snowfall that Chicago received early Monday morning.

Some of the Shedd Aquarium’s animal care experts collected and brought fresh snow into the otter habitat for the three otters being housed in the Shed’s otter habitat.

The otters consist of Luna, a Southern sea otter; Kiana, a Northern sea otter; and Yaku, the aquarium’s only male otter. Lune and Kiana were both rescued and have been deemed unfit to release back into the wild.

The otters aren’t just having a good time with the snow, though. Playing in snow encourages physical exercise and mental stimulation that is important for their care.

The Shedd Aquarium also likes to keep the otter sessions varied and fun so they encourage elements like now because it intrigues and satisfies the otters.

The best part? They have the densest fur in the animal kingdom so they don’t get too cold!
