A 40-pound seal pup was released by Mystic Island Volunteer Fire Company and the Marine Mammal Stranding Center out of Brigantine. The tiny seal had been attacked and bitten by a shark, then rescued and rehabilitated at the center. In an effort to keep the seal safe from human threats, the director of the center, Bob Schoelkopf, chose not to disclose the location of the seal’s release. Hopefully, thanks to the efforts made by the company and the center, the young seal will go on to live a long and healthy life.
