A massive Great White Shark was spotted off the coast of Hawaii earlier this month and it appears to be the largest great white on record at 20 ft. long!
She is so legendary that she even has her own name “Deep Blue” and her own Twitter account!
Deep Blue is in the area because she was recently seen feeding off a large sperm whale carcass. The carcass is approximately 20 miles off of Oahu and attracted several large sharks, but Deep Blue was the largest.
The video was taken by divers that were not in a cage which indicated that Deep Blue was a calm shark for the moment. With a full belly, she was not very interested in the divers.
Deep Blue has been spotted in several places around the Pacific including Mexico. The visual tracking has been occurring for years. It is believed that Deep Blue is around 50 years old!
Sharks that reach a ripe old age are extremely successful predators. Not only do they need to find meals, but also avoid entrapment by humans. It is an impressive feat! Hopefully Deep Blue will be spotted on a regular basis for years to come.
