We here at Awesome Ocean have been following the oil spill crisis in California. When news of the oil spill broke, the animal care team at SeaWorld San Diego proudly stood up and volunteered to help rescue and rehabilitate any animals that might be affected by the oil spill.
When animals are in need, SeaWorld is there to help.
SeaWorld has quickly responded with their expertly trained Oiled Animal response team. They immediately sent 3 of their Animal Care Team Members to Refugio Beach at the request of the Oiled Wildlife Care Network. These team members have received high levels of specialist training that will allow them to help and assist in the clean up efforts with the California oil spill.
SeaWorld is taking in animals received by the Oiled Wildlife Care Network and they’re focusing on stabilizing those animals. Then they begin the process to wash and remove the oil from the animal’s body.
SeaWorld’s animal care team is working tirelessly to save these animals affected by the oil spill. These are the same animal care team members who have now rescued over 800 sea lions this year.
These incredible men and women are the living, breathing proof of why zoological facilities, like SeaWorld, are so important. At a moment’s notice, they can drop everything and rush to save animals in need.
Thank you to all the hardworking men and women who are working to save these animals affected by the oil spill. You are heroes.
