Tahoe, Baxter, Shasta, and Ryer are four river otters who live at the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco, California. The foursome was surprised with a snow day every Thursday of December and their reactions were absolutely adorable.
The night before each snow day, the staff transported between 1,000 and 2,000 pounds of snow into their exhibit. The river otters had no idea what was happening, so in the morning they woke up to a white winter wonderland surprise.
Unlike most of us, the cold of the snow does not bother these otters one bit. With over 58,000 hairs per square centimeter, their fur coat makes them seem impervious to the chill of the snow. In fact, otters have the densest fur in the world, so they can swim in cold water without feeling cold at all.
All of the river otters at the snow day seemed to enjoy playing around in the strange icy substance that magically appeared in their environment overnight. They all wanted to investigate, roll around, burrow, and lounge in the snow. The cutest part is that they all wanted to play in the snow together, just like one big happy family of river otters.
