Baby seals and sea lions, it does not get much cuter than that. If taking care of these adorable animals sounds like a dream come true and you live in Sausalito, California, your time has come. The Marine Mammal Center is looking for volunteers to help them with the fast approaching pup season. This is your chance to get up close and personal with baby seals and sea lions.
Every year the center cares for hundreds of injured, sick and weak pups who just need some extra assistance before being released back into the wild. Typically, pups spend about a month on the beach under their mother’s supervision before braving the ocean’s rougher waters. But sometimes their mother is unable to come back to take care of their pups for a variety of reasons including rough storms and predation.
Right now, the center only has about 20 animals in care. That number is expected to rise to hundreds, so extra hands are critical in this operation. You don’t need any prior experience, just a love of the animals and willingness to learn. The center will provide all of the training you need to make sure these pups are returned to the wild happy and healthy.
