Who knew? Apparently, pumpkin carving is the perfect medium for making literal ocean art. Maybe it’s the way the tea candles flicker to make little fishies dance, or perhaps you finally tried that impossible shaving technique.
Any who… if you haven’t carved your pumpkin yet, here are some awesome ocean themed pumpkins to get the juices flowing.
1.) Classic Anchor
This is like the learner’s permit of pumpkin carving. It’s straight forward, takes minimal effort, and your hands won’t get that dirty. As an added bonus, there are plenty of punny Instagram captions you could pair with it. Ex: I Pump-can’t Even With How Cute This Turned Out.
2.) Nemo Never Disappoints
Technically this pumpkin isn’t fully carved, but HEY we’re not judging. As long as this pumpkin was free handed and not stenciled… it’s a totally acceptable attempt. Plus everyone loves Nemo, and if they don’t… then they’re getting raisins instead of candy.
3.) Little Fishy, Majorly Cute
This one probably took some “abstract” thinking. Who would think to turn their pumpkin sideways? Not me. The real question is… how do they keep it from rolling off the porch?
4.) Squiggly Wiggly Seahorse
Now this one is definitely harder to do than it looks. Do you see the smooth curve of the squiggly kelp lines and the scalloped edges of the seahorse? This took some serrated knife mastery. Clean edges like that don’t happen over night.
5.) Prickly Pufferfish
Lovers of candy corn BEWARE. You may need to buy double the required quantity of candy corn for this prickly pumpkin. Some of it actually has to end up on the pumpkin. Not only is this little guy totally cute, but time consuming… free up your schedule.
6.) Casual Shark Attack
Kudos to this carver. While Jaws may not be a Halloween horror movie, shark attacks are what nightmares are made of. The hand drawn stencil is also a crowd pleaser. Today’s templates can be so generic… am I right?
7.) Octo-Possible
This pumpkin has us all kinds of confused and there needs to be a Pinterest tutorial ASAP. How is the octopus free floating? This pumpkin is intense. Just look at those eyes.
8.) Whale Of An Idea
Here we go. This is the “shaving” technique that seems nearly impossible. Side note: if you don’t feel up to the task… you can always use black paint or a sharpie marker. Apparently, orca whales looks majestic even when they’re carved on a pumpkin.
9.) Under The Sea
Now. This. Is. Art. The warm glow of this pumpkin is magical. This handy work is from either years of mastery or a Groupon class. We can’t decide. Either way… we would buy this pumpkin as a night light and use it until it’s collapsed. Ew but true.
10.) Sea-Scape Turtle
This hand carved pumpkin made our list thanks to the added landscape portrait. To be honest, it really reminds us of the kid in your 5th grade class, the one whose mom did their science fair project. We bet this kid probably won.
11.) Anglerfish Ain’t No Joke
This pumpkin is pure genius. We hope who ever gifted the world with this masterful pumpkin had it trademarked. We’ve seen the big pumpkin and little pumpkin combination before… but not like this. Seriously, this pumpkin needs its own Netflix original series.
12.) The Great Pumpkin
Sorry Charlie Brown, the great pumpkin is not what you thought it was. IT’S THIS. So you have pumpkin carving and then you have just straight up PUMPKIN CONQUERING. Is that a real fish inside? This pumpkin belongs in a museum next to the collection of Halloween Town DVDs.
As you can see, we started with the easiest pumpkins and worked our way down to the most difficult. Happy carving!
