A large octopus caught the attention of diver Vitaly Bazarov while on an early-morning solo dive in the waters of the Red Sea off of Dahab, Egypt. And it seems that Bazarov caught equally as much attention from the octopus who, in the footage that was recorded, spent a few moments examining him just as closely.
But that didn’t mean that the octopus liked the attention, or merely wanted to inspect the camera a little bit closer. Because moments later, the large predator reached out and attempted to steal the diver’s camera, causing the footage to show a fair bit of wrestling, until the camera hits the ground.
Bazarov recalled that the large male had been hunting “on the grass, at the depth of about 26 metres and when it saw me he went to hide.”
Mr. Bazarov is a professional diver with almost 5,000 dives’ experience, and he was out at 6am to record the footage, telling the Daily Mail that “The Red Sea is one of the best places for an underwater photographer but, to get the best shots, it is important to dive alone.”
