These 5 sea creatures have mastered the art of being (almost) completely invisible!
1. Transparent Squid

These “see-through” squid are commonly referred to as Glass Squid and there are approximately 60 different species in our ocean. The only part of their bodies that are tinted with color are their cigar-shaped livers. When these creatures do want to be seen (like when they are mating) they can use bioluminescence to put on a colorful show for viewers.
2. Transparent Jellyfish

Jellyfish are found in all of the world’s oceans and to a certain extent are all pretty transparent. However, fully transparent jellies will employ the use of bioluminescence to attract their prey close enough to snare them with their tentacles.
3. Transparent Flounder

Like other sea creatures, flounder larvae are completely transparent to avoid being seen and eaten by others. As they grow, they slowly lose this ability and replace it with something just as cool: camouflage!cooler one. And isn’t the ultimate form of transparency blending in with your surroundings?
4. Transparent-Headed Barreleye Fish

This guy! What an odd looking creature. While clearly not fully transparent, we had to count him in our list because of the strangely clear head. Barreleye fish live about 600 to 800 meters below sea level and were viewed for the first time in their natural habitat in 2009. What’s really interesting is the “eye sockets” you see in the photo aren’t eyes at all – they are its nostrils and the green orbs inside its head are the eyes!
5. Transparent Sea Cucumber

These sea creatures have an ancient lineage. Through evolution, they have adapted to become transparent beings allowing them to sneak past predators and survive for millions of years.
