Boom! Babies everywhere at Madrid’s Zoo

This year Madrid’s zoo population increased noticeably thanks to numerous successful breeding programs. The cute and cuddly new additions include: one Little Asiatic elephant (Buba), a super cute panda (Xing Bao), an hippo (Polpeta), a male gorilla (Gaika), and two giraffes (Masai and Kenia). What’s really special though is that in less than a month, two of Madrid’s female dolphins have given birth to two healthy calves!
The first mother was Mary, a 34 year old bottlenose dolphin. On May 23rd, Mary delivered her 4th calf after 30 minutes of labor. Vets have said that the new calf is a male who weighs about 22lb (10 Kg) and measures about 35 inches.
Shortly after, on June 10th, another female named Guarina gave birth to another healthy male calf that weight about 25lb and measured 35inches. Guarina is the older female in Madrid’s Zoo. She actually shares pool with two of her calves: Iruka and Naia.
