A New Place For A Nativity Scene, In The Shark Tank

A nativity scene was erected this month in one of the most unique places yet- a shark tank! The scene was created in the aquarium in Cattolica, an Italian city on the Adriatic coast. The aquarium is the largest on the Adriatic with 3,000 creatures from about 400 species.

Nativity scenes are usually on land and included donkeys, sheep, shepherds, a stable and a manager. In Italy, the Christmas time Nativity scenes are known for being elaborate, hand crafted and overwhelming large displays. The display inside the tank does not disappoint. Instead of sheep there are sharks and instead of donkeys there are fish, the whole display is amazing.

Instead of statues, the scene is composed of ceramic tiles that were mounted inside the shark tank. When the divers were installing the scene they had to make sure to keep an eye of the 10 foot sand tiger shark, Brigitte, and her friends as they worked. At one point Brigitte had to be poked as a warning that she was a little too close for comfort for the installation divers.

Overall the exhibit is just very cool, just imagine the Nativity scene plus sharks. Everything is better when there are sharks involved.
