The first sea lion to be born at the Georgia Aquarium has officially made her debut to the public. The young sea lion has been named Scarlett, after Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind. The book is based in the South over a century ago, so Scarlett is an appropriate name for a Georgian sea lion.
Scarlett is a really adorable little sea lion that has been adapting well to her home. Will Elgar, the director of animal training at the Georgia Aquarium, said “After getting to know Scarlett over the last month, her personality really resonated with all of us. We wanted to tie back to the great city we call home with a name that also attributed to her personality traits. I think we’ve found something just as iconic and star-studded with Scarlett, as our first sea lion pup born in Atlanta.”
If you haven’t been to the Georgia Aquarium yet, then this is the perfect chance to go. It is really an amazing aquarium for any who loves the ocean. In addition to this new sea lion pup, the aquarium has dolphins, sharks, fish and even whale sharks! If you enjoy learning about the ocean, then it is worth a visit!
