Father’s Day Rescue – Rough Toothed Dolphin Stranded Off The Florida Coast

While most people were enjoying a relaxing Father’s Day, the dedicated men and women at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and SeaWorld Orlando were busy helping save a stranded rough toothed dolphin’s life.

On Sunday morning, a 7 foot long 200 pound juvenile male was found stranded on a beach near Clearwater, Florida.  The Clearwater Marine Aquarium recovered the stranded animal. After its condition was evaluated, officials from NOAA made the call that the animal needed to be transported to SeaWorld Florida where they would have the capacity to help this rough toothed dolphin.

Upon arrival, SeaWorld’s animal care team jumped into action and began examining the dolphin and getting fluids and antibiotics into the mammal.

The dolphin arrived at SeaWorld Orlando extremely weak. He will be under 24 hour monitoring and care until he is healthy enough to move and swim on his own.

While we don’t know how dire the condition of this animal is just yet, we hope it makes a full recovery and is deemed releasable by NOAA when the time comes.

This heroic Father’s Day rescue is a great example of how amazing things can happen when facilities like these work together!  When an animal is in danger, it’s nice to know there are organizations like SeaWorld and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to answer the call.
