HUGE Blue Marlin Caught With … A Gatorade Bottle?

Think Gatorade bottles are only good for a day?

Think again!

Jeff Rogers, a fishing captain from Hawaii’s Kona Coast, decided to stop tossing his empty Gatorade bottles in the trash. Instead, he created something incredible.

Something so incredible, in fact, that his invention landed a massive 671-pound blue marlin while fishing in the Aloha Kai.

He recycles empty bottles into big-game fishing lures. By wrapping vinyl strips around the bottle and fashioning them into large, colorful lures, he practically guarantees massive marlin take the bait.

This innovative lure is called the “Gator” and according to Rogers, outperforms many pricey store-bought models.

Jim Rizzuto, who writes for Fish Track, sings praises for the “Gator”.

“When he deploys this lure, his parties are usually skeptical. But he reassures [them] that fish do hit it and the strikers are almost always marlin weighing 300 pounds or more,” Rizzuto said.

According to Rizzuto, big-game anglers throughout the Pacific have a long history of crafting lures from items they’ve collected, including bones, shells, boar bristles and beer cans.

A little imagination and basic lure-making skills can go a long way!
