We Missed What?!?

A meteor crashing into the Atlantic Ocean created a super awesome, really big explosion … but no one saw it.

According to NASA, it occurred on February 6 about 1,000 km off the coast of Brazil. It burnt about 30 km above the ocean surface, realising the equivalent of 13,000 tons of TNT. Wowza.

Even though it happened in mid-afternoon, this even went completely unnoticed, but that’s not out of the ordinary. Nearly 30 small asteroids burn up in our atmosphere every year, NASA estimates.

It’s always more likely that those asteroids will end up in the ocean and not affect any populated areas.
