Thunderdome: Orca Vs. Shark

…It’s hard out there.

A recently released photo of an orca whale near Scotland shows a chunk of his tail fluke missing.

And experts are blaming a shark.

Dr. Yannis Papastamatiou, a marine biologist from the University of St Andrews, speculates the orca could be a victim of a mako shark bite. Makos have been spotted in the waters around Scotland.

The entire incident is rare, according to scientists.

Director of Conservation for the Shark Trust Ali Hood said, “Sharks generally avoid encounters with cetaceans and certainly a healthy mature Orca would not be the likely target prey for a shark,” but added that it is impossible to be certain who took the bite.

Maybe the shark attacker saw this video and decided to exact some revenge.
