Pope Joins Conversation on Climate Change
The growing issue of climate change, sea level rise and ocean acidification have not escaped the notice of the leader of the Roman Catholic church – Pope Francis.
In a draft of the pontiff’s encyclical, Pope Francis says “swift action” must be taken to protect our planet from global warming, caused by the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities.
This document was leaked and the Vatican isn’t happy about it, but we’re happy to see someone so revered taking a stand to protect our awesome oceans (and lands too.)
The pope’s document points to the loss of biodiversity in the Amazonian rainforest and the melting of Arctic glaciers as examples of the harm we’ve caused our home.
He is calling on all of us to prevent further destruction.
