Australian fisherman, Luke Burton, and his friend caught this fantastic footage of rare tropical orcas swimming alongside their vessel off the coast of Australia’s Northern Territory.
Mr. Burton said there were about 15 members of the pod.
The smaller ones would’ve been at least two metres long and the larger ones were getting up to six or eight metres I reckon,” – Burton
Orca sightings in Australia’s warmer waters are rare – only four pods have been seen in the past two years.
Carol Palmer of the Department of Land Resource Management senior scientist for marine mammals was fascinated by the video and urged anyone who spots orcas off the NT coast to call the Marine Wild Watch line. We still have so much to learn about these magnificent creatures and one of the best ways to study them is by witnessing them first hand.
