A young fisherman’s line and heart strings were pulled on when he hauled in a 12-pound lobster!
When Forrest Galante was night fishing of the coast of Santa Barbara, California, he felt a heavy tug on his line and reeled in a new friend.
He took the enormous Pacific spiny lobster home with him that night and named it Albert Girther.
The next morning he couldn’t bear the thought of eating the creature and took him to the local Santa Barbara Sea Center. Workers at the center were happy to help and estimated that the lobster was close to 70 years old!
A week later, Forrest took Albert to a marine sanctuary on the Channel Islands so he could live out his life peacefully.
Experts encourage leaving larger lobsters in the wild as they are more fertile and productive than smaller lobsters.
