Tangled Dolphin Asks Diver for Help

Dolphins are some of the smartest creatures on the planet, so would it really shock anyone that a dolphin asked a human for help?

So here’s what happened: a manta-ray diving group were underwater, filming footage of manta-rays, when out of nowhere an adorable bottlenose dolphin appeared.

The dolphin swam up to diver Keller Laros and nudged him as if to say, “I need some help!”

You see, the poor dolphin was entangled in fishing line, as well as having a fishing hook stuck in its fin. By swimming up to Mr. Laros, the dolphin probably hoped that this friendly human would help untangle him.

What makes this story so cute is that the dolphin stayed close to Mr. Laros and gave him the time to untangle him and remove the hook. What makes this story even cooler, is that the entire event was captured on camera.

This beautiful interaction between a dolphin and a human is amazing to see. How rare is it that a wild dolphin would swim up to a diver, and for the diver to understand his problem?

While the interaction was an amazing and beautiful thing, it’s even more important to note that it could have been avoided. It’s up to us to be more mindful of the waste we leave in the ocean.

The creatures of the ocean don’t know what fishing line is or that a grocery bag isn’t a jellyfish, which some sea creatures eat. How many time have we seen animals trapped in the plastic rings which hold beer cans?

The answer is more than enough. Let’s all do our part and do our best and keep our waste on the boat and out of the water.
