VIDEO: Cat Fight!!! Winner Gets A Seal?!

Being ocean fanatics and animal lovers ourselves, we understand how passionate people can become when protecting and caring for the ocean and its inhabitants.

But this goes a little too far.

Hawaii News Now – KGMB and KHNL

Although these ladies ended up in a knock down drag out fight (something we do not encourage) over the proximity of one woman to a group of Hawaiian monk seals, the incident does bring to light an important issue.

How close is too close?

As stated in the news clip, there actually isn’t a law prohibiting you from walking right up to marine life. The “rules” suggested by marine centers are more of guidelines.

Our 2 cents is that the guidelines are important and are suggested for a reason. Furthermore, the reason is usually to protect the animals.

What do we want you to take from this cat fight?

Respect marine life. Even if there are no rules or guidelines and no one is watching.

The monk seals were doing fine before you arrived and they don’t need you to be their friend.

What they do need is people who respect their space, admire their beauty and teach others to care for future generations of marine life.
