Video Of Rarely Seen Orcas Beach Rubbing

Check out this incredible video of a group of orcas rubbing themselves in the shallow beach waters near Campbell River in British Columbia.

“Holy, moley,” says one of the whale watchers as an orca moves in close and rubs itself along the bottom. “This is crazy…probably feels like a nice massage.”
The group of at least 4 whales is believed to be part of a resident pod in the islands off northern Vancouver Island.
Scientist speculate this behavior is traditional and pasted down from generation to generation. It’s believed to be unique to the northern resident orcas and is so uncommon it’s not easily studied.
