She might not be featured in any Victoria’s Secret campaigns in the near future, however, harbor seal Giseal Bundchen (named after the supermodel Gisele Bundchen) has made headlines for a much different reason. Giseal Bundchen has finally returned to the wild after months of rehabilitation at the National Marine Life Center in Maine.
The National Marine Life Center has been open for five years and has taken in roughly 117 since opening.
The harbor seal was rescued as a pup after getting stranded on Chebeague Island. Luckily for her, Marine Mammals of Maine were on hand soon after to bring her into safety. Due to the fact that she was separated from her mother, it was unlikely she would be capable of surviving on her own to adulthood.
It ended up being left up to the knowledgeable staff at the National Marine Life Center to teach little Giseal Bundchen how to “seal,” from fishing to swimming. They also had to treat a nasty ear infection she acquired.
Since her initial intake date, she has almost doubled in weight, a very good sign regarding her health.
Giseal was outfitted with a satellite tracker before being released to allow scientists to monitor how deep she dives while in her natural habitat.
