Chester and Sinead are two seal pups that were rescued and taken to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth for treatment of various injuries. Chester was found first in Hartlepool at was only 6 weeks old with a swollen mouth and infection. Sinead was found a few weeks later after being found in Longsands for minor injuries.

Both of the pups were treated at the Marine Rescue Center within the Blue Reef Aquarium. Both of the pups recovered relatively quickly after being treated with various medication and TLC. The pups are now able to feed themselves.

The two pups became close friends in the recovery tanks and when they were released earlier this month they were seen swimming away together. Their release day was a bittersweet one at the aquarium. The staff was happy that the pinnipeds were well enough to swim away and fend for themselves, but they had become a favorite pair among the staff so it was sad to see them leave.

The pair was released at Seaton Sluice and the hope is that the two recovered pups make their way to a much bigger colony together so that they can start their lives in the ocean in a happy environment.
