We’ve been huge fans of cute animals from day one.
But on one day of the year, cute is overrated.
Friday, October 31 is finally here and it’s time to bring on the crEeEeEpy critters!
Here are 13 spooky sea creatures that confirm our thoughts that the deep sea is one of the eeriest places on Earth. Just be thankful that humans can’t live in those pressure-filled waters because frankly, we might not make it long with these creatures swimming about.
1. Deep Sea Anglerfish
Look familiar? That’s because this fish became famous chasing Nemo and Dory while simultaneously scaring the bejesus out of little kids all over the world.

2. Saber-Toothed Viperfish
Those fangs you see practically poking itself in the eye are able to mobilize prey in tropical waters. Good news – its hinged lower jaws mean that mouth can open wider than you think it can.

3. Goblin Shark
Even though they live 1,300 meters below sea level, Goblin sharks are still terrifying just because we know they’re down there. Be thankful we didn’t show a video of one of them feeding , because they basically detach their whole mouth from their body to grab their prey. Yikes.

4. Giant Spider Crab
This bad boy can grow up to 12 ft. long from claw to claw – that’s bigger than your dining room table at Thanksgiving! Getting nipped by this crab might take your whole hand off.

5. Stargazer
This flat fish burrows beneath the sand to lurk for prey. It’s eyes (and face) are situated on top of its head – so when you’re wondering how terrifying this fish could really be – just imagine looking down and seeing that face.

6. Megamouth Shark
This shark gets huge (18 feet long) and wasn’t even discovered until 1976. Prey fall victim to the glowing plankton inside its mouth and then they see life no more. We’re scared because 18 feet isn’t tiny … how many more of them are out there?

7. Giant Isopod
These creepy-crawlies are mostly scavengers and live at depths of 2,000 meters. Giant isopods have been around since the days of Pangea and haven’t died out, probably because they can go 4 years without eating.

8. Sarcastic Fringehead
These fish are small but ferocious. With their large heads and aggressive territorial behavior, it’s no surprise that they get in fights with other fish on a daily basis. Do yourself a favor and get to steppin’.

9. Blackdragon Fish
Wouldn’t wanna meet him in a dark alley. This fish has light-emitting organs all over its underside to fool prey and is so toothy that even its tongue has razor-sharp teeth. Look closely. Scared yet?

10. Blobfish
Recently named the world’s ugliest animal, this fish floats along the ocean floor and survives by eating whatever drifts in front of it.

11. Frilled Shark
This shark has a body like an eel and coils and launches itself at prey. Its jaws are big enough to swallow prey whole and many rows of needle-like teeth make it impossible for prey to escape.

12. Snaggletooth
Just like in humans, the term “snaggletooth” is never a good thing. This fish has lots of curved teeth and a highly unfortunate bone structure.

13. Giant Squid
The stuff of legends – this animal is massive compared to the average human, growing up to almost 43 feet long. 43 FEET LONG. We don’t even have to tell you why this is scary as all getout.
